Unified Communication SIG (Previously NTUG)

 In News

With a huge transition to a digital workplace and learning spaces, the tools that employees are using every day – for communicating, for working together, creating content and consuming info – are undergoing a significant transformation. The technologies we’ve been using the last few decades need a fresh look, and in order to stay relevant and add value, we need to align with these changes. In many cases, the roles of people, and how our ICT teams and departments need to interconnect across traditional team borders, have changed as well, especially with communication technologies and platforms.

The Unified Communication (UC) SIG focuses on communication technologies and services depending on that. This is from your traditional phone services, cloud communication platforms to modern video conferencing and many more.

The UC SIG is the longest-running User Group, previously NTUG, in South African Higher Education. This group has adapted as technology has changed over the years from the analog desk phone to technologies that fit into the digital communication workplace.

The UC community helps everyone to stay abreast of the latest local and international trends in this space. Educating our members on topics relevant to the community. It also helps members to see how they align with other community members. From architecture to the approach they take, we see constructive discussions between people who are bouncing technology ideas off peers.

This SIG also drives national initiatives that drive down costs for services and products. Simplifying architecture and centrally hosted services for universities.

We already have two-thirds of the South African universities actively participating. Chat to your voice, conferencing and cloud platform communications teams and get them involved, and see how this community can benefit your university and your team.

Below is a bit broader list of services on our community space.
